Long Position

The purchasing of securities, commodities, options or other financial products that can be traded on stock exchanges. The papers are bought, and are then owned by their purchaser. The purchase is conducted with the intention of being able to sell these papers for a higher price at a later point in time. The purchaser earns on the difference between the higher selling price and the lower purchase price. A so-called long position arises as a result of purchasing securities.
