Peter Braumüller, Director of Insurance and Pension Companies Supervision at the FMA, has been re-elected as the Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) at this year’s annual conference and general meeting. His re‑election to the post means that Braumüller will be heading the IAIS for a further two years. The Association ranks as the third key organisation responsible for setting standards in global financial market regulation alongside the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and IOSCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions). Braumüller will also represent the IAIS on the Financial Stability Board (FSB).

The current challenges facing the IAIS, in addition to implementing numerous recommendations from the FSB and G20, and the related work on financial market stability and system risks, lie primarily in the revision of the Insurance Core Principles, the expansion of the Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU) to include new member authorities, the ComFrame project for the improved supervision of internationally active insurance groups, and also implementation of internal strategic reform.

Peter Braumüller began his career in 1983 in the insurance supervision department at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance. He was appointed Head of Insurance Supervision in 1999 and has led the Insurance and Pension Companies Supervision Department of the FMA since the Authority was founded in 2002.
